The Chordettes win the International Bronze medal at the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers International Convention
in Galway, Ireland. The girls gave an outstanding peformance and wowed the audience with their new vibrant sound!
Tonight was a logisitical challenge to arrange everyone into their respective voice parts, but with a smile and a grin, we achieved this in under ten minutes!
The basics were covered and then we split into sections to learn the first part of our first song 'Lean On me'.
After a 20 minute session everyone came back together and WOW! It is hard to believe that in less than one hour we were able to sing through the first part of the song. You can witness the result by clicking the video opposite.

Week 1. Lean on Me
Week 2. One Fine Day
This weeks session started with a reminder of the great warm up routine by Sue. This got the evening off to a good start with everyone smiling, laughing .... and out of breath!
It was great to see some new faces tonight - you are all very welcome.
We covered the basics of 'posture' and 'breathing' before splitting into sections for our 20 minutes of 'note bashing'. We added the start of a new song 'One Fine Day' as well as going all the way through 'Lean On Me'
Some choreography has now been added, thanks to Anna and you can witness the results by clicking the video's opposite.

Week 2. Lean on Me
Week 3. Lean On Me
It was Helens turn to start this weeks session off with a great warm up routine - thanks Helen!
We had some reminders of the things we'd worked on over the previous two weeks before moving on to this weeks topic 'Vocal Freedom'.
One of the planned exercises this week was to experience constriction in the voice - so we know what it feels like, so we can avoid it! The idea was to sit on a chair, place your hands underneath the chair and try and pick yourself off the ground, but as we have so many (great) singers on the course we didnt have enough room :-).. what a nice problem to have :-)
We did some more work on the two course songs, 'Lean On Me' and 'One Fine Day', with some reminders from Anna on our visual presentation. We also started to think about the words in the songs to help express the correct emotion when we sing.
You can see where we are this week on 'Lean On Me' by clicking the video opposite.

This is the penultimate week of the course and tonight was all about resonance and thinking about vocal placement.
After the 20 minute session on resonance we stayed together on the choral risers and carried on working on our two songs, Lean On Me and One Fine Day. We still need to do a bit of polishing, but progress has been great. It's hard to believe what has been achieved in just five short sessions! Everyone on the course should feel very proud of their achievement!
