The Chordettes win the International Bronze medal at the Irish Association of Barbershop Singers International Convention
in Galway, Ireland. The girls gave an outstanding peformance and wowed the audience with their new vibrant sound!
Peter Nugent
Peter, known more affectionately as ‘Nooj’, has been singing Barbershop ever since a fateful evening in 1993 as an audience
member of the infamous TV show – You Bet!. One of his old friends was on the show as a contestant, collecting golf balls in a
knee pouch whilst racing a motorbike around a race track at 120 miles per hour……… strange but true. Whilst there, he got to
see the Barbershop quartet ‘Island Engagement’ served up as a ‘forfeit' for the legendary rugby player ’Gareth Chilcott’ to sing
with. Peters’ jaw dropped in awe at the wonderful ringing sound (of the quartet – not Gareth Chilcott!) and it has remained
open – a life changing moment and he hasn’t been the same since then!
Amongst Peter’s Barbershop highlights he has sung baritone with the 8 times champion chorus, ‘The Great Western
Chorus’ and with the European Champion and Choir of the World chorus ‘The Cambridge Chord Company’. Peter has
represented the UK on the International Chorus stage in Denver, Colorado in 2007 and in Anaheim, California, in 2008.
With his old quartet ‘QED’ he won the coveted Barbershop quartet gold medal at the British Association of Barbershop
Singer's (BABS) convention at Scarborough in 2007. He then went on to represent the UK at the Barbershop
International convention in Nashville the following year. Peter now sings with the ‘British Quartet Champion Chorus’
(BQC’s) who can regularly be seen entertaining audiences at both the men’s and ladies annual Barbershop conventions.
Peter now sings baritone with the Barbershop quartet ‘Steel’. They won the BABS Quartet championship in Harrogate in May 2010 and are very proud
to be the BABS 2010 Gold Medal quartet. 'Steel' represented the UK in the International competition in July 2010 in Philadelphia and achieved the highest ever score for a British Barbershop quartet.
On the education front, Peter is a faculty member of BABS Directors College and also on the faculty of BABS Harmony College in the Quartet coaching stream.
In the real world Peter lives with his partner Alison – also an avid Barbershop singer and champion in her own right. He is a full time (very mature) student at The University of The West of England studying Music Systems Engineering.
